“‘I WAS ASLEEP WHEN THEY TOOK MY BABY’ — Tension in Nasarawa as Gunmen Storm Home, Snatch Newborn from Teenage Mother”
Fear and anger have gripped residents of Nasarawa State after a heartbreaking incident in which suspected gunmen reportedly abducted a newborn baby from a 19-year-old mother in the Karu area.
The shocking attack happened in Kidnawi 2, Maraban Gurku, a community not far from Abuja, throwing the entire area into panic and confusion.
According to the victim, identified as Aisha, she was asleep in her room around 11:00 p.m. when the attackers stormed in.
She explained that she first heard a loud knock before two men forced their way inside. In her emotional account, she said one of the attackers grabbed her by the neck and covered her mouth while the other took her newborn baby and fled.
The incident reportedly happened while her husband was away in Lagos, leaving her alone at home with the child.
The case was later confirmed by the community leader, Abubakar Yusuf, who said the matter had been reported to the police and security agencies.
However, residents say the situation remains disturbing as no breakthrough has been recorded yet in the search for the missing child. Community members have since carried out local searches, but no trace of the baby or the suspects has been found.
A neighbour also revealed that many people did not even hear the victim’s cries until after the attackers had already escaped.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Nigerian Police Force in Nasarawa State, SP Rahman Nansel, said he had not yet been fully briefed on the incident but urged residents to assist with any useful information that could lead to the recovery of the child.
The tragic development has left the community in deep fear, with many calling for stronger security presence and faster response to emergency situations.
