Nigerian cleric Primate Elijah Ayodele has warned that ongoing tensions in the Middle East could have serious economic consequences for Nigeria.

Speaking in a recent Facebook video, Ayodele said global instability could trigger ripple effects that would directly impact Nigeria’s economy, especially through rising fuel costs, inflation, and disruptions in global supply chains.
He stressed that Nigeria must not wait for the situation to escalate before taking action.
“This Middle East matter—Nigerian government should start planning,” he said, warning that prolonged conflict could deepen economic pressure on households.
He also recalled earlier predictions made at the beginning of the year, insisting he had already warned about rising hardship despite expectations of economic improvement.
“If you remember January 1st, when others said there would be abundance, I said there would be hardship,” he stated.
According to him, external shocks from global conflicts could worsen Nigeria’s already fragile economic conditions if proactive steps are not taken.
Ayodele urged policymakers to respond quickly rather than react late, emphasizing that delays could increase the burden on ordinary citizens.
“The government should work quickly on this hardship syndrome,” he added, calling for immediate economic safeguards and planning.
