‘We Are Doing Nothing At The National Assembly’ – Senator Ndume
Ali Ndume has criticised the performance of Nigeria’s National Assembly, saying its oversight responsibility has “collapsed” and lawmakers are failing to properly scrutinise government policies.
Speaking during an interview with Dan’Uwa Rano TV, Ndume said the legislature now routinely approves executive proposals without effective accountability measures.

“There is no oversight at the National Assembly anymore. We are doing nothing,” the senator stated, adding that he sometimes questions the relevance of the institution despite being part of it.
Ndume also argued that leadership reflects societal values, citing a religious teaching that societies must change internally before leadership improves.
The remarks come days after Ireti Kingibe raised concerns about the treatment of women in the Senate and the lack of meaningful female representation.
