JUST IN: Supreme Court Reserves Judgment in PDP Appeal Against Lamido, INEC

The Supreme Court on Wednesday moved to reserve its judgment regarding a legal challenge brought forward by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against Alhaji Sule Lamido, the former Governor of Jigawa State.

This high-stakes appeal also involves the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Austin Nwachukwu, and two other parties listed as respondents in the matter.

The apex court’s decision to put the final verdict on hold followed a productive session where the panel of justices regularized all pending legal processes.

During the proceedings, the court took time to hear comprehensive arguments from the main appeal, ensuring all parties had their positions properly documented.

After the counsel representing the various interests adopted their written briefs, the panel announced that it was satisfied with the submissions. The justices subsequently informed the legal teams that “judgment would be delivered on a date to be communicated to the parties.”

The legal battle originally began in the lower courts, where the PDP sought to contest a ruling that recognized Sule Lamido, INEC, and the other respondents in a specific capacity.

By escalating the matter to the Supreme Court, the party hopes to overturn previous judicial decisions that it believes were not in its best interest or in alignment with legal standards.
