A former beauty queen has been f@tally shot and her mother-in-law has been identified as the prime suspect.

Carolina Flores Gómez, 27, was discovered lifeless in a plush flat in one of Mexico City’s most prestigious districts.

The model and influencer is thought to have sustained a gunshot wound to the head last Wednesday, April 15.

Emergency services confirmed her d£ath at the upscale residential complex in Polanco – an area renowned for its affluence and safety.

Prosecutors have since disclosed that her mother-in-law, referred to only as Erika María, is the main suspect in the case, as reported by NeedToKnow.

She was reportedly inside the property at the time along with her son, the victim’s partner, Alejandro.

Detectives are also investigating a delay in reporting the incident.

Although the shooting is believed to have occurred on Wednesday night, authorities were not notified until the next day, when Alejandro sounded the alarm.

While the mother-in-law remains the primary suspect, Carolina’s husband has also been questioned about the sequence of events.

Adding to the intrigue, security personnel at the building reported hearing no gunshots or unusual activity.

Forensic teams and ballistics experts have since scoured the flat for evidence.

Marina del Pilar Ávila, governor of Carolina’s home state of Baja California, has demanded a thorough and immediate investigation.

She stated: “No crime against a woman should go unpunished. Our thoughts are with her family during this devastating time.”

Prosecutors have initiated the case as intentional homicide, but campaigners are insisting it be classified as femicide due to the suspected gender-based nature of the murd£r.

Carolina was a recognised figure in her home state after winning the Miss Teen Universe title for Baja California in 2017. She also claimed several local titles in her hometown of Ensenada.

The investigation continues.
