Fresh political debate has erupted after former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, made a bold statement defending the ruling party ahead of the upcoming national convention of the All Progressives Congress.

On the issue of opposition politics, Dogara pushed back against claims that the ruling party is interfering in internal crises of rival parties. He insisted that political parties must take responsibility for their own internal organization and unity.
According to him, a strong democracy depends on a credible and functional opposition, but that responsibility lies within those parties themselves.
