The suspect, identified as Ofobuike Damian, was dragged before a Magistrates’ Court in Abakaliki following accusations that he stabbed his elderly mother to death inside their home.
According to reports, the heartbreaking incident happened on March 19 in Ohatekwe community, Ukawu, located in Onicha Local Government Area. The prosecution revealed that the suspect allegedly attacked his mother, Mrs. Onyema Damian, stabbing her in the back with a knife, which led to her death.
In a surprising turn during the court session, the accused reportedly admitted to the crime without legal representation. His explanation left many in disbelief, as he claimed the incident happened after his mother refused to bathe him. He added that he could not fully explain what came over him at the time.
Due to the seriousness of the case, the Magistrate ruled that the court lacks the authority to continue the trial and ordered that the suspect be remanded in a correctional facility. The matter has now been forwarded to the appropriate legal authorities for further action, with the next hearing scheduled for April 9.
