Fresh tension has emerged within Nigeria’s political space after former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, opened up on the controversy surrounding the controversial Ibadan convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Saraki revealed that several top stakeholders were strongly advised against going ahead with the convention, insisting it was not in the best interest of the party. Alot of people won’t agree with this, Watch Video Now.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Saraki said efforts were made to convince key political figures, including governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, to reconsider the plan.

According to him, even a committee set up within the party reportedly advised against proceeding, but their recommendations were allegedly not followed because of differing political interests at the time.

Saraki explained that those pushing for the Ibadan convention believed it was the right decision then, even though others strongly disagreed. He stressed that the party now has to focus on healing divisions and rebuilding unity instead of assigning blame.

His comments highlight ongoing cracks within the PDP, as leaders continue to struggle with reconciliation and internal trust issues ahead of future elections.

As Nigeria’s political landscape continues to shift, many are now asking whether these internal disagreements could affect the party’s long-term strength.
