Ondo Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa Reacts After Court Bars Him From Contesting 2028 Governorship Election
The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has responded following a court ruling preventing him from contesting in the 2028 governorship election.
The reaction was captured in a video posted on the official Channels Television X handle on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Watch What Really Happened.
This follows a judgment by the Federal High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, which ruled that Governor Aiyedatiwa is ineligible to contest the 2028 election. The court determined that doing so would violate the constitutional eight-year limit for holding office.
In the video, Aiyedatiwa clarified that he has never formally declared an intention to contest any election.
“I have never at any time declared to the public that I was going to contest an election. I did not approach the court to seek eligibility to contest an election,” he said.
The governor’s statement emphasizes that his focus remains on governance rather than political ambition, amid legal and public discussions regarding the upcoming election.
