Media personality Ria Abdul has shared how her connection with Nigerian broadcaster IK Osakioduwa helped her begin a career in Nigeria’s media industry. Watch The Video.
During an interview on a show hosted by Chude Jideonwo, Abdul explained that before moving to Nigeria, the only person she had any connection with was IK Osakioduwa—though their relationship was not personal, as she knew him only through social media.
She revealed that she had long admired his work and sent him a direct message on Instagram expressing her appreciation for his contributions to the media industry.
After relocating to Nigeria, Abdul attended one of IK’s live shows, where she introduced herself and discussed her media experience. Impressed by her presentation, IK recommended her for a role at News Central TV.
“The only person I knew was IK Osakioduwa, though we didn’t actually know each other personally. I simply admired his work and sent him a DM telling him that I loved what he was doing. When I arrived in Nigeria, I went to one of his shows and explained what I do. After hearing me speak, he said I was good. He later recommended me for a role at News Central TV. I went for the interview and ended up getting the job,” Abdul said.
The recommendation marked the beginning of her professional journey in Nigeria’s media industry, illustrating the impact of mentorship and networking in shaping career opportunities.
