“It Was Yakubu Mahmood That Recognized ADC Leadership… We Know His Technical Glitch History” — Kenneth Okonkwo Sparks Debate Over INEC Approval of Party Leadership

A fresh political conversation has emerged in Nigeria after legal practitioner and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, made claims about the recognition of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

To read or watch the original interview, Channels Television interview. Speaking during a recent interview on Channels Television, Okonkwo stated that the current leadership of the ADC has been officially accepted by INEC, led by its Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, and that this recognition validates the party’s internal structure.

According to him, the leadership transition within the party passed through a proper verification process and was fully reflected on INEC’s official portal.

He further argued that the approval process was thorough, suggesting that even the smallest procedural error could have caused rejection if any irregularities were detected.

In his words, he referenced the INEC chairman’s past election experiences, saying that despite what he described as “technical glitches history,” the commission still carefully examined the ADC’s submission and found no issues with their documentation.

Okonkwo insisted that this outcome shows the party leadership “went the extra mile” to comply with all legal and administrative requirements, stressing that the recognition should silence doubts about its legitimacy.

His comments have since generated reactions across Nigeria’s political space, with supporters viewing it as confirmation of ADC’s credibility, while critics argue that political interpretations should not be confused with official legal declarations.

The discussion adds to ongoing debates about party structures, electoral processes, and INEC’s role in regulating political parties ahead of future elections.

What do you think about this development? Is this a strong validation or just political interpretation?
