“I Killed My Husband” – Woman Sentenced to 20 Years for Killing Her Husband Because…
A tense courtroom drama ended in a heavy sentence after the Eldoret High Court handed a 20-year jail term to Liza Koima, a mother of two, over the death of her husband in a case that has stirred deep public debate across Kenya. Alot of people won’t agree with this, Watch Video Now.
The incident dates back to August 27, 2020, in Kipkorgot Estate, where what began as a family disagreement tragically escalated into a fatal confrontation.
According to court records, Koima told the court that her husband had been demanding money from her, allegedly meant to start a large farming project in Narok County.
She further explained that on the day of the incident, her husband returned home after drinking and the argument intensified. She claimed he struck her with a blunt object during the altercation, and in the heat of the moment, she grabbed the object and hit him back on the head, leading to his death.
During sentencing, Judge Reuben Nyakundi described the act as a serious offence, stressing that domestic disagreements should never be allowed to escalate into loss of life. While Koima initially argued self-defense, the court ruled that her response was excessive compared to the threat she faced, leading to her conviction.
The ruling has sparked mixed reactions, with some sympathizing with her claims of self-defense, while others insist the law must take its full course in cases involving loss of life.
